Congress Members Warn Biden Against Funding Israeli Settlements and Violating Palestinian Rights

M.Y | DOP -

Progressive Democrats in the United States Congress have urged the US President Joe Biden to revise American policy on the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, asserting that US aid should not be used to facilitate mistreatment of Palestinians’ rights.

On Thursday, 14 congress members wrote a letter to President Biden and Secretary of State Antony Blinken, asking them to look into whether US weapons were used to violate the human rights of Palestinians and to guarantee that United States taxpayer funds are not being used on projects in illegal settlements.

Representative Jamaal Bowman and Senator Bernie Sanders, leading members of Congress, voiced worries about the escalation of violence in the occupied West Bank and the activities of the new Israeli far-right government.

The US administration was called upon to make a change in their policy towards the growing brutality, increased land seizure, and the dismissal of Palestinian liberties. The Congress members said in the letter that the only way to ensure a lasting peace is to ensure the freedom, human rights, and independence of both Palestinians and Israelis.

Congresspeople implored Biden and Blinken to make certain that US taxpayer money is not being utilized for projects in unlawful settlements, and to decide if US-origin defense items have been used in contravention of existing US laws.

The US administration was asked to guarantee that no foreign aid granted to Israel, including armaments and apparatus, be used to violate human rights, which would be accomplished by more precise monitoring of end-use and more precise financial tracking.
