US Vice President Mike Pence stressed on US recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, pledged the US would relocate its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem by the “end of next year.”
As he said this in the Israeli Knesset, Pence called on the Palestinians to return to the negotiating table for peace talks.
When Pence started speaking, the Arab MKs raised placards reading: “Jerusalem is the eternal capital of Palestine.”
Israeli MKs rushed towards them, attacked them and pushed them out of the building of the Knesset, which supposed to be the place of practicing democracy.
“Just last month, President Donald Trump made history. He righted a 70 year wrong, he kept his promise to the American people” as he recognised Jerusalem as Israel’s capital.
During his speech before the Israeli Knesset, Pence made it clear that “the US Embassy will open [in Jerusalem] before the end of next year.”
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and US President Donald Trump have offered differing timelines on the embassy move, with the Israeli premier saying last week it would happen “much faster than people think, within a year from today.”
