Palestinian Tribes Call for Gaza Administration Committee to Take Office Without Delay

DaysofPal- Alaa al-Aklouk, head of the Palestinian National Gathering of Tribes, Clans, and Families, called Monday for the immediate deployment of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza. “There is no longer any justification” for delaying the committee’s work after the dissolution of the Government Emergency Committee, he said.

Al-Aklouk’s remarks came after the Government Administrative Committee announced its resignation and completed preparations to transfer administrative responsibilities to the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, a technocratic body established under the Board of Peace and currently based in Cairo.

Speaking during a press conference at Al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir al-Balah, central Gaza, al-Aklouk said that “all the obstacles that had previously been cited have now been removed,” urging that the committee be allowed to begin carrying out its duties as soon as possible.

He said the National Gathering had supported the committee since its formation and remained fully committed to providing whatever assistance was needed to ensure its success and serve the Palestinian people in Gaza.

Al-Aklouk added that the gathering was awaiting the official conference announcing the details of the administrative handover and expressed hope that the committee would begin operating in Gaza without further delay.

He described the government’s decision to relinquish its responsibilities as an initiative offered to Palestinian tribes and factions, arguing that those who had previously cited obstacles to transferring authority “no longer have any justification” after the government’s dissolution.

Emphasizing the urgency of the transition, al-Aklouk called for the committee to be fully empowered to carry out its mandate and help alleviate the suffering of Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

“The people have endured tremendous hardship, and the time has come to begin a new phase that contributes to improving their living conditions,” he said.

Following the government’s resignation, Ali Shath, head of the National Committee for the Administration of Gaza, reaffirmed that the committee was fully prepared to assume its national responsibilities as soon as it receives the necessary resources and authorization to operate.

The National Committee for the Administration of Gaza is a transitional technocratic body established under UN Security Council Resolution 2803 and US President Donald Trump’s 20-point peace plan. It held its inaugural meeting in Cairo on January 15, 2026.

At that meeting, the committee announced the start of its mandate to oversee Gaza’s civilian administration, internal security, stabilization, recovery, and reconstruction until the Palestinian Authority completes its planned institutional reforms.

Despite its formal establishment, however, the committee has yet to begin operating from inside the Gaza Strip due to the continued Israeli military presence and restrictions. Neither the committee nor Israeli authorities have publicly clarified why its members have not yet been allowed to enter the territory.

The delay comes as Gaza continues to endure the devastating consequences of Israel’s military campaign, launched on October 8, 2023. According to Palestinian authorities, more than 73,000 Palestinians have been killed and over 173,000 wounded, while approximately 91 percent of the Strip’s infrastructure has been destroyed.
