Israeli occupation authorities sent call-up notices to the Palestinian Christians encouraging them to join the occupation army, but the Christians has ever refused to respond.
“We intend to appeal to the Christian population of conscription age [17 and 18] and will send them call-up notices to volunteer for service,” Lieutenant-Colonel in the Israeli army Amir Hai told reported on last April.
However, as Christian holidays are approaching, the Israeli occupation told Christians that the state benefits offered in the holidays would be aimed at only those who respond to the call-up notices.
This pushed a large number of the Palestinian Christians to take to the streets making their voice loud against what they called “obligatory recruitment in the occupation army.”
Christian Knesset Member Basel Ghattas condemned this kind of Israeli “blackmailing” for the needs of the Palestinians Christians.
“This measure changes the welfare offices from a facility to offer aids to the needy to contractors working on recruiting Christians in the occupation army,” Ghattas said.
Commenting on this issue and the Western-led ally against ISIS, Archbishop of the Greek Orthodox Church in Jerusalem Attalla Hannah said: “There are some parties in the region and in the West using Arab Christians. We refuse this and these parties know very well the whole truth.”
He called for the West to stop subsidising terrorism. “They subsidise terrorism and bring it up and then when it ripens, they say we want to get rid of it,” he said.
