The Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs reported on Thursday, that the Israeli occupation forces transferred 17 detainees from the town of Silwad, near Ramallah, to administrative detention, after their arrest as part of the latest campaign of arrests.
Early Wednesday, the Israeli occupation forces launched a campaign of mass arrests and vicious raids in the town of Silwad, northeast of Ramallah in the occupied West Bank.
The Palestinian Prisoner Club reported that the campaign of arrests in Silwad affected 24 citizens
It is noteworthy that the Palestinian prisoners’ institutions stated in their monthly report that the Israeli occupation authorities arrested 464 citizens from the occupied Palestinian territories, including (70) children and (18) women, during the month of June.
The mentioned number is distributed among the palestinain areas as follows: 159 from Jerusalem, with the highest rate of arrests, and (15) from the Gaza Strip. The number of administrative detention orders issued during the same month reached (153), including (58) new orders, and (95) orders renewal.
It is noteworthy that administrative detention is imprisonment without trial and without the detained having committed an offense, on the grounds of speculative grounds of a possibility of this person committing a crime in the future.
The administrative detention has no time limit as the person is detained without legal proceedings based on alleged classified evidence that is not revealed to anyone, not even the prisoner himself nor his legal team.
This leaves the detainees helpless – facing unknown allegations with no way to disprove them, not knowing when they will be released, and without being charged, tried, or convicted.
The detainee does not know the length of his/her sentence or the charge against him/her. The administrative detainee is often subjected to the renewal of the detention period more than once, each renewal could vary between a period of three months, six months, or eight. Sometimes up to a year.
