The Palestinian Ministry of Detainees and Ex-detainees strongly condemned on Sunday, July 30, 2023, Itamar Ben-Gvir’s recent approval to ban the early release of Palestinian prisoners, branding it a cruel measure aimed at undermining the prisoners’ resilience.
The ministry accused the Israeli government of adopting an extremist and fascist approach towards prisoners, stating that this move particularly targets sick prisoners who previously had the right to early release.
In a statement, the ministry said that this decision is a continuation of the extremist and fascist approach adopted by the occupation government in dealing with the prisoners.
The ministry pointed out that this decision primarily targets sick prisoners who have the right to early release, indicating that the occupation has given the green light to extremist Ben-Gvir to quietly execute death sentences against sick prisoners.
In addition, the statement warned of the continuation of this extremist government in enacting laws and issuing decisions that will further restrict the prisoners inside the prisons, which could potentially lead to a new explosion of tensions within the prisons.
Earlier, the Minister of National Security Itamar Ben-Gvir endorsed the ban known as “Al-Manhali” which allowed prisoners to be released before completing their sentences to ease overcrowding.
