Israeli Settlers Escalate Attacks in West Bank

West Bank: Settlers attack Palestinian homes, cars

DaysofPal—Palestinian villages in eastern Ramallah are facing a sharp rise in Israeli settler attacks, which residents and rights groups warn are part of a systematic campaign to forcibly displace local communities under the protection of Israeli occupation forces.

Known for their wide farmlands and grazing areas, these villages have become key targets for settlers, particularly since October 2023.

The settlers’ escalation has turned previously quiet areas into flashpoints of violence.

According to the Wall and Settlement Resistance Commission, nine Palestinians have been killed by settlers in the West Bank this year, seven of them from eastern Ramallah.

In July alone, three were killed in that region, including two young men from al-Mazra’a ash-Sharqiya who died defending the nearby town of Sinjil.

Many residents of these villages hold dual nationalities, especially American, but that has not deterred settler violence.

“Settlers attack without fear or regard for foreign citizenship,” said Abdul-Samad Abdul-Aziz, a local council member and U.S. citizen.

“Even after an American citizen, Saif Allah Maslat, was killed, the U.S. only issued a vague statement without condemning the crime.” He added.

Abdul-Aziz accused the U.S. of complicity, saying the current ambassador is more extreme than Israeli far-right ministers. He also reported that settlers attacked the town’s industrial zone, home to 800 workers, attempting to burn factories and intimidate Palestinian investors, particularly those with foreign ties.
The violence is believed to be driven by extremist settler groups like the “Hilltop Youth,” whose activities have intensified since October.

Abdullah Abu Rahma of the Resistance Commission said their success in displacing 33 Bedouin communities in the area has emboldened further assaults on nearby villages.

Settlement researcher Ahmad Hanayti believes the attacks are calculated. “Settlers are targeting villages where residents are more likely to emigrate,” he said, adding, “It’s not random; it’s strategic pressure.”

Hanayti noted that after driving out smaller Bedouin communities through violence and harassment, settlers are now focusing on more populated villages, using fear as a weapon to expand their presence.

“These are not isolated acts,” he added, noting, “Settlers are part of a broader system working in tandem with occupation forces to displace Palestinians and take control of their land.”

Despite the Israeli pressure, residents say they remain steadfast: “We will not leave. This is our land, and we will defend it.”
