DaysofPal- The Israeli Security Cabinet approved on Friday a comprehensive plan to occupy Gaza City and expel its residents in preparation for imposing a new military settlement reality.
According to Israeli sources, the Cabinet has authorized Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Defense Minister Yisrael Katz to give final approval to the military plans and begin extensive “cleansing” operations targeting the population inside the city.
A statement from Netanyahu’s office revealed that the plan aims to impose full Israeli security control over Gaza City.
The plan also outlines a clear intention to empty Gaza City of its population by October 7.
After that, a full Israeli military siege will be imposed, and anyone remaining in the city will be considered a “military target.”
Human rights organizations warn that this plan signals a permanent forced displacement, marking a dangerous historical precedent that could amount to a “new Nakba” for the Palestinian people.
Internal Disputes and International Condemnation
Despite its approval, the Cabinet meeting saw intense internal disagreements, most notably from Chief of Staff Herzi Halevi (referred to as Eyal Zamir), who warned that storming Gaza City would endanger both soldiers and Israeli prisoners.
Australian Foreign Minister Penny Wong warned that Israeli control over Gaza constitutes a clear violation of international law, calling for the urgent opening of humanitarian corridors. China also condemned the Israeli decision to occupy and displace Gaza’s population, while Turkey’s Foreign Ministry denounced the new Israeli war decisions amid the ongoing genocide.
The Hamas Movement responded by saying that the Israeli plan represents a coup against ongoing negotiations, accusing Netanyahu of seeking to serve personal political interests and continue the project of forced displacement and genocide against the Palestinian people in Gaza.
In a notable development, families of Israeli prisoners held in Gaza harshly criticized the government, accusing it of “completely abandoning their sons.”
They described the Cabinet’s decision as “deceptive and unforgivable,” claiming it follows a reckless path that complicates the crisis and diminishes the chances of securing their loved ones’ return.
They urged the Israeli public to take immediate action to halt what they called the government’s “dangerous momentum,” stressing that the only realistic solution is to reach a comprehensive prisoner exchange deal, not to plunge into further war and destruction.
