The Israeli Occupation forced on Thursday, August 24, 2023, the Palestinian man Ayman Dubash to self-demolish his own home in the village of Sur Baher, southeast of occupied Jerusalem. The occupation claimed that the house was built without a permit.
Local sources reported that Ayman Dubash chose to demolish his house himself to avoid facing a financial penalty if Israeli forces carried out the demolition.
Demolishing Palestinian homes is considered a form of collective punishment. According to international law, property demolition is prohibited unless for extreme military necessity. However, Israel, a party to the Fourth Geneva Convention, argues that the Convention’s provisions do not apply to Palestinian territories.
