Israeli occupation forces killed 35 Palestinians, including 8 children, in the occupied West Bank and Jerusalem in January 2023.

In a statement, the Palestinian ministry of health announced that the death toll of Palestinians killed by Israeli forces in January reached 35.

Jenin

Israeli occupation forces escalated attacks and deadly raids in the occupied West Bank city of Jenin, killing 20 Palestinians all over January.

Nine Palestinians, including an elderly woman and two brothers, were shot dead by Israeli occupation forces in one day in Jenin

On January 26, 2023, Israeli occupation troops carried out a military invasion in Jenin, killing nine Palestinians and causing considerable damage to several Palestinian structures.

Four children are among Jenin victims, two of which were killed in the deadly raid on January 26: Abdullah Musa and Wasim Jaes.

Children

Under international law, intentional lethal force is only justified in circumstances where a direct threat to life or serious injury is present.

However, investigations collected by the Defence of Children-Plaestine approved that Israeli forces use lethal force against children of Palestine in circumstances that may amount to extrajudicial or wilful killings.

The Palestinian ministry of health said that Israel killed eight Palestinian children in January 2023, which marked the first month of the year

According to the MOH, the Israeli forces shot dead Adam Ayyad, Amer Abu Zaytoun, Omar Khamour, Fuad Abed, Abdullah Musa, Wasim Jaes, Mohammed Ali, and Wadi Abu Rumoz.

Furthermore, the Palestinian child Nayef Oweidat, 12, succumbed to serious wounds he sustained in August 2022 when Israeli missiles targeted the Al-Nusseirat refugee camp in the Gaza Strip.

Jerusalem

The Israeli deadly shooting attacks claimed the lives of five Palestinians in occupied Jerusalem in January. Two children fell victim the Israeli brutality.

Israeli occupation forces fatally shot the Palestinian child Mohammed Ali in the chest. It happened during a military invasion in Jerusalm’s refugee camp Shuafat. He was immediately pronounced dead.

Furthermore, the Israeli forces killed Wadea Romouz and Yusuf Muhaisan during protests held to denounce the Israeli crime in Jenin.

In addition, Israeli troops killed Samir Aslan, a father of eight children. He tried to help his son while being arrested by Israeli forces in the Qalandiya refugee camp north of Jerusalem. Israel killed him immediately.

The other victims were killed during shooting attacks by Israeli forces in the West Bank cities of Nablus, Bethlehem, Ramallah, and Hebron.

One of the most outrageous crimes took place in Ramallah when Israeli forces killed Ahmad Kahla for allegedly trying to carry out an attack against Israeli soldiers.

Earlier on January 15, Israeli occupation forces shot and killed Kahla next to his car. He was heading to his workplace along with his son Qusai in Salwad town, east of occupied Ramallah.

Several days later, the Israeli occupation army admitted killing Kahla despite the fact that he posed no direct threat to anyone’s life.

Israeli forces killed a total of 35 Palestinians across occupied Palestine in January with full international silence. Israel has a long history of killing Palestinians and then escaping responsibility.
