On Saturday July 20th, 2024, the Supreme Political Council of Yemen’s Houthi movement vowed there would be a harsh “effective response” to Israeli airstrikes on Hodeidah port, Reuters reported.
Houthi spokesman Mohammed Abdel Salam said the “brutal Israeli aggression against Yemen” aims to “pressure Yemen to stop supporting Gaza, which is a dream that will not come true”.
The attack “will only increase the determination of the Yemeni people and their valiant armed forces,” he added.
Late on Saturday, the Israeli occupation confirmed that its military was behind conducting strikes against Yemen’s Red Sea port city of Hodeidah which resulted in casualties, including 17 fatalities and 80 wounded people.
Israel’s airstrikes came in response to earlier attack on Tel Aviv by Houthi group.
The Israeli airstrikes were carried out a day after the Houthis claimed responsibility for a drone attack that killed one person in Tel Aviv and injured injured 10 others, in response to Israeli 10-month genocidal war on Gaza.
The Israeli attack in Yemen targeted oil storage facilities and a power plant in Hodeidah, igniting a fire in the area, according to Houthi’s Al Masirah TV.
The Israeli airstrikes are the first known direct attack by Israel against Houthis since the start of the war on Gaza. The assault comes amid growing fears of escalating violence across the Middle East.
