The far-right Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben Gvir approved on Sunday, 4 June 2023 measures to make it easier for certain Israeli Settlers to obtain a firearm license as part of a controversial plan.
According to the Israeli news site of Walla, any former Israeli soldier discharged in the previous five years, active reservists, as well as police officers and firefighters, will receive an exemption from personal interviews when applying for a license.
The move, which must be approved by the Knesset National Security Committee, will significantly shorten the bureaucratic process so that it consists only of filing a health declaration and a police permit, the news site added.
“We will do anything we can to allow all those who meet the criteria to get gun permits.”, said Ben Gvir
More than 150,000 Israeli settlers hold a weapon license in the occupied Palestinian lands which does not include the Israeli forces and other services, nor the guards in all places.
