Support Committee for Journalists expressed concern on Thursday, June 8, 2023, over Israeli occupation forces’ continued targeting of Palestinian media crews with live and rubber bullets in an attempt to deter and prevent them from covering Israeli crimes taking place in the occupied West Bank cities and villages.
The committee confirmed that Israeli occupation forces injured the Palestinian photojournalist, Moumen Samarin, with a metal-coated rubber bullet in the head while covering the events in Ramallah. He is currently in intensive care.
“We hold the occupation fully responsible for the life of journalist Samarin, and we believe that the repeated targeting of journalists while carrying out their professional duties aims to deter them from continuing their work in exposing the crimes committed by the occupation against the Palestinian people,” the committee said.
The committee added that the occupation has targeted 64 journalists since the beginning of 2023.
The committee emphasized the necessity of holding “Israel” accountable over its ongoing crimes against Palestinian journalists. It also pointed out that Israeli violations are contrary to the Rome Statute of the International Criminal Court and the Fourth Geneva Convention.
