DaysofPal- International reactions intensified on Wednesday following the release of video footage by Israeli far-right National Security Minister, Itamar Ben Gvir, showing the abuse, torture, and mistreatment of Sumud Flotilla’s activists aboard the “Global Steadfastness Flotilla” bound for Gaza.

The footage, which depicts assaults, humiliation, and mocking behavior toward the activists, triggered a wave of diplomatic protests, with several European and Western countries summoning Israeli ambassadors or chargé d’affaires in response.

Italy’s Foreign Ministry ordered the immediate summoning of the Israeli ambassador in Rome after images circulated that were described as offensive, including footage involving Italian nationals.

In a joint statement, Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni and Foreign Minister Antonio Tajani condemned the incident as “unacceptable,” stating that the Italian government is acting “at the highest levels” to secure the release of its citizens and demand a formal apology for their treatment.

The statement also called on the Israeli occupation to respect the dignity of the activists and take urgent steps to address the situation.

France similarly summoned the Israeli ambassador in Paris, with Foreign Minister Jean-Noël Barrot describing the actions shown in the video as “unacceptable.”

He stressed the need to protect the rights of French citizens and ensure their swift release.

The Netherlands joined the response, summoning Israel’s ambassador over the unacceptable treatment of flotilla activists, while emphasizing the importance of upholding international law and ensuring the safety of Dutch nationals.

Spain also summoned the Israeli chargé d’affaires and issued a formal demand for an immediate apology.

In related developments, Greece’s Foreign Ministry condemned the conduct attributed to the Israeli minister, while diplomatic sources indicated that Portugal and Belgium had taken similar steps by summoning Israeli representatives for formal reprimands.

Austria’s Foreign Minister also denounced the footage, stating that the treatment of flotilla participants shown in the videos was “completely unacceptable.”

Beyond Europe, Qatar’s Foreign Ministry condemned the incident, saying the abuse and mistreatment of activists reflects broader violations faced by Palestinians.

The video reportedly shows Ben Gvir directly confronting activists, while Israeli forces are seen dragging participants and subjecting them to degrading treatment.

The incident has further fueled international criticism and renewed calls for accountability, as governments demand explanations and assurances regarding the safety and treatment of their citizens involved in the flotilla.
