DaysofPal- The Israeli Occupation Forces (IOF) have released 13 Palestinians from Gaza after holding them for months in detention under conditions described by medical and human rights organizations as harsh, degrading, and abusive.
The detainees were released at the Kissufim crossing in central Gaza and transported by the International Committee of the Red Cross (ICRC) to al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital in Deir el-Balah.
Doctors reported that the released individuals were severely malnourished, with visible injuries consistent with physical abuse and prolonged neglect.
Rights organizations, including the Palestinian Prisoner’s Society, have documented a surge in detentions since the outbreak of Israel’s war on Gaza nearly two years ago.
Thousands of Palestinians from the enclave have been arrested, many subjected to forced disappearances, incommunicado detention, psychological pressure, and physical mistreatment.
Released detainees described weeks and months without proper medical care, minimal access to food, and frequent interrogation under duress.
Some had spent extended periods in solitary confinement, often without contact with family members, raising serious concerns about violations of international law regarding the treatment of prisoners.
The Palestinian Prisoner’s Society emphasized that these 13 releases represent only a small fraction of the estimated thousands still held in Israeli detention centers, warning that the majority continue to face inhumane conditions and systemic abuse.
Medical staff at al-Aqsa Martyrs Hospital noted that some of the released detainees required urgent treatment for malnutrition, infections, and untreated injuries, highlighting the long-term health consequences of prolonged detention under neglectful conditions.
Human rights advocates have called on the international community to press Israel for the immediate release of all detainees held without due process and to ensure that medical and humanitarian access is guaranteed for all prisoners.
