The World Food Program (WFP) has said on Sunday, 28 May 2023, that it will be forced to suspend aid operations to vulnerable people in the West Bank and Gaza if no funding is received by August.
“I felt like my soul was leaving me,” said the mother of seven whose husband is unemployed. “This voucher used to cover my family’s monthly basic food needs. I look forward to it at the beginning of each month.”
The WFP has already reduced monetary aid by around 20% this month due to a funding shortage. If no cash is received by August, the organization will be compelled to halt activities in the occupied West Bank and Gaza.
The World Food Programme echoed this sentiment in a May statement, saying, “Vulnerable families in Gaza and the West Bank have been pushed to the breaking point by the combined effects of growing insecurity, a deteriorating economy, and rising living costs, which are driving food insecurity up.”
