The United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) confirmed today that 82 percent of the Gaza Strip is now under Israeli evacuation orders, leaving Palestinians with virtually nowhere safe to go amid ongoing destruction of homes and shelters.
In a post on X (formerly Twitter), UNRWA reported that an Israeli airstrike on a Gaza City school sheltering displaced families on Monday morning caused significant damage to the facility. Thankfully, no injuries were reported.
“Humanitarian installations are not a target,” UNRWA stressed, calling for “an immediate ceasefire” in the devastated enclave.
The Israeli occupation military launched air raids on four school shelters Monday, including three adjacent schools in Gaza City’s Zaytoun neighborhood and a fourth in Al-Tuffah, despite advance warnings to evacuate.
Since the start of what Palestinians describe as a genocide on October 7, 2023, Israeli forces have systematically targeted schools and displacement centers, killing and wounding thousands in what human rights groups warn may constitute war crimes.
According to Gaza’s Government Media Office, more than 11 UNRWA shelters housing displaced families were bombed in June alone.
