Gaza City’s municipality has announced extensive damage to its road infrastructure due to the ongoing Israeli military assault, now entering its twentieth month.
In a press statement, the municipality said the city’s road network spans approximately 900 kilometers across 3,659 streets, including main roads, side streets, and alleys.
The network serves over one million residents in Gaza City and surrounding areas, with about 50,000 vehicles relying on these roads daily.
According to the municipality, around 42% of the entire road network has been completely destroyed, while 14% sustained partial damage and 38% suffered light damage.
“The level of destruction has shut down many roads,” the statement added, emphasizing the urgent need for reconstruction this year to reopen routes for residents and vehicles and to restore mobility across the city.
The municipality called on international stakeholders and donor institutions to urgently support emergency repairs to the crippled road infrastructure.
