DaysofPal- The United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees (UNRWA) has warned that new Israeli measures concerning the occupied West Bank undermine Palestinians’ future and constitute another blow to international law.
In a statement posted on its account on the platform “X,” UNRWA said the new Israeli steps pave the way for accelerated settlement expansion in the West Bank, further undermining Palestinians’ prospects.
The agency added that these measures are “a recipe for more control, despair, and violence,” and represent another blow to international law, entrenching dangerous precedents with global repercussions. No further details were provided.
The warning follows the approval by the Israeli Security Cabinet of a series of decisions proposed by far-right Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich and Defense Minister Israel Katz, which are expected to bring about fundamental changes to the legal and civil reality in the occupied West Bank.
According to an Israeli statement, the decisions aim to remove longstanding obstacles that have hindered rapid settlement expansion in the West Bank, in addition to canceling a Jordanian-era law prohibiting the sale of land to Jews.
Among the most prominent decisions is the declassification and public release of West Bank land registry records, which had previously been restricted.
Israeli occupation claims that this move will “enhance transparency and facilitate land purchases.”
The latest decision would also allow the Israeli occupation to carry out demolition and confiscation of Palestinian property even in areas that, under the 1995 Oslo II Accord, fall under the administrative and security control of the Palestinian Authority.
Since the start of the war in Gaza, Israeli operations in the West Bank, including Jerusalem, have intensified, involving killings, arrests, displacement, and settlement expansion.
According to official data, at least 1,112 Palestinians have been killed in the West Bank during this period, approximately 11,500 have been injured, and more than 21,000 have been arrested.
