DaysofPal- The UN Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) has issued a stark warning that the planned Israeli military assault in Gaza City could have catastrophic humanitarian consequences, potentially forcing hundreds of thousands of residents to flee, a situation that would lead to forced displacement.
OCHA reaffirmed its commitment to continue supporting the people of Gaza, noting that its teams will remain in the city to deliver essential humanitarian aid despite escalating dangers.
The office reported that approximately 86% of the Gaza Strip is currently under evacuation orders or designated as military zones, intensifying the risk to civilians and complicating humanitarian operations.
Moreover, the UN further highlighted the ongoing famine in Gaza, warning that Israel is engaging in what it described as “engineered starvation.” This includes direct targeting of the most vulnerable populations, such as children, the sick, and the elderly, with disturbing scenes resembling “zombies” due to extreme hunger, lack of food, and shortages of medicine.
Hospitals in southern Gaza are operating far beyond their capacity, the UN said, stressing that transferring patients from northern areas under these conditions could have dire and potentially fatal consequences.
OCHA also urged the international community to take immediate action to ensure the safe passage of food, water, medical supplies, and fuel, emphasizing that without urgent intervention, the humanitarian crisis will deepen, risking the lives of hundreds of thousands of civilians.
