DaysoPal- The United Nations has decided to place Israeli bodies on top of its blacklist of parties responsible for sexual violence in conflict areas, following years of Israeli sexual abuse, torture, and degrading treatment in Israeli prisons and detention facilities against Palestinian prisoners and pro-Palestine activists.
Israeli UN ambassador Danny Danon noted that the official announcement is expected soon and will include several Israeli institutions, such as the prison service.
In response, the Israeli occupation decided to suspend cooperation with the office of UN Secretary-General António Guterres.
Over recent months, human rights groups, investigative reports, and testimonies from detainees have pointed to a significant increase in sexual abuse and humiliation by Israeli forces, settlers, and prison staff since the genocidal war in Gaza began in October 2023.
Earlier, UN Special Rapporteur Francesca Albanese stated that Palestinians in Israeli custody have faced systematic torture, including severe beatings, sexual violence, rape, starvation, and inhumane treatment, leaving lasting physical and psychological harm.
Her report also noted a sharp rise in arrests since October 2023, with more than 18,500 Palestinians detained, including at least 1,500 children.
Additionally, a May 11 investigation by The New York Times detailed narratives by Palestinian detainees who were subjected to rape, abuse of minors, physical torture, and other forms of mistreatment by Israeli soldiers, settlers, and prison personnel.
