The head of the Hamas Movement in the Gaza Strip, Yahya Sinwar, affirmed his movement's commitment to the struggle for the liberation of Palestinian prisoners from the prisons of the Israeli occupation.

This came during a visit by Sinwar and a delegation from the movement, today, Wednesday, to the home of the family of the prisoner Hassan Salama, in the city of Khan Yunis, in the southern Gaza Strip.

Sinwar stressed the justice of the prisoners ’issue and the commitment of the" Hamas "movement to the struggle for their liberation, headed by Hassan Salameh.

The Hamas movement had put the name of the detainee Salameh, and other detainees, on its list bearing the name "Al-Quds Our Destination," which was nominated in the upcoming legislative elections.

However, the Election Commission “rejected the candidacy of prisoner Hassan Salameh, claiming that he was not registered in the voter register,” despite the movement’s appeal against the commission’s decision.

The Israeli occupation forces arrested Hassan Salameh in Hebron, in the southern West Bank, on May 17, 1996, and sentenced him to 48 life sentences on charges of belonging to the "Hamas" movement and its military wing.
