Days of Palestine – Jenin

Israeli occupation forces kidnapped two brothers Thursday evening from Jaba' south of Jenin at the "Hamra" occupation's military checkpoint in the Jordan Valley.

Local sources said that Israeli forces detained two Palestinian brothers while they were crossing the military checkpoint in "Hamra", while they were returning to their town.

The two brothers identified as the two brothers Sand and Ali Khalila.

An Israeli checkpoint is a barrier erected by the Israeli occupation forces, primarily today part of the system of West Bank closures in the Israeli-occupied West Bank.

The checkpoints have the stated aim of tightening the screws on Palestinians living in the West Bank and Jerusalem.

Since the 1990s, Israel has created hundreds of permanent roadblocks and checkpoints staffed by Israeli occupation forces.

In September 2011, the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA) said there were 522 roadblocks and checkpoints obstructing Palestinian movement in the West Bank, up from 503 in July 2010. That number does not include the temporary checkpoints known as "flying checkpoints," of which there were 495 on average per month in the West Bank in 2011, up from 351 on average per month in the previous two years.

According to B'Tselem, there were 99 fixed checkpoints in the West Bank in September 2013, in addition to the 174 surprise flying checkpoints. In August 2013, 288 flying checkpoints were counted.

Palestinian residents of the West Bank said that the Israeli occupation checkpoints, in practice they violate Palestinians' rights to transportation and other human rights.

Palestinian complaints of abuse and humiliation are common as the Israeli occupation forces, who manning checkpoints, abuse and humiliate Palestinians and limited their movement in addition to the continuing unjustified detenation.

It's noteworthy that the Israeli occupation holds about 4,500 Palestinian prisoners, of which about 310 are being held in administrative detention, without the right to a trial.
