Days of Palestine, West Bank –Chief Palestinian Authority (PA) negotiator Saeb Erekat said yesterday that the Israeli government is the real ruler of the occupied West Bank.
In a press release, Erekat said Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu revived the Civil Administration in the occupied West Bank and it is run by Coordinator of Government Activities in the Territories Yoav Mordechai.
Civil Administration is an occupation system through which the Israeli occupation used to run the occupied Palestinian territories before the Oslo agreement and the establishment of the PA.
Erekat also warned about the absence of Palestine from the political map for 100 years due to Israeli measures. “The cost of Palestine’s absence from the political map is more expensive than specifying the relations with Israel,” he said.
The senior official said that Israel controls 54 per cent of the Palestinian land in the Jordan Valley, calling it a closed military zone.
He also said that 22 per cent of the Jordan Valley is allocated as natural reserves and is slated to be turned into settlements, 16 per cent already has settlements built on it and only eight per cent is controlled by the PA.
A Palestinian delegation is to meet with Israeli officials to specify relations with them, noting that PA President Mahmoud Abbas called for a meeting with Netanyahu but the latter refused, Erekat said.
