Days of Palestine, West Bank –Palestinian residents of Duma to form groups of defence volunteers to guard themselves from attacks of Israeli settlers.
After the Friday incident, when the extremist Israeli Jewish settlers burnt a Palestinian house in the village of Duma, near the West Bank city of Nablus, the Palestinian villagers decided to form the volunteering groups.
“The Israeli authorities protect the settlers and the Palestinian Authority (PA) does not face them,” Ahmed Izziddin, villager, said.

“Therefore, we decided to protect ourselves by our own.”
On Friday, Israeli settlers set two Palestinian homes ablaze in Duma, killing the baby infant Ali Dawabshe, one-and-a-half years old, and leaving his parents and four-year-old brother in critical condition.
While the PA security services said Saturday it would do everything in its power to crack down on terrorist acts carried out by settlers, the PA has no jurisdiction over Israelis living in the West Bank. In addition, the PA has never done anything to stop settlers’ violence against Palestinians.
While Israeli forces will detain a Palestinian in the occupied West Bank for possessing a knife or gun, Israelis living in the same area are legally able to carry whatever weapons they want.
PA Prime Minister Rami Hamadallah said on Friday that the Israeli Jewish settlers carried out 11,000 violent attacks against Palestinian in the occupied West Bank in the last ten years.
Israeli Jewish settlement in the occupied Palestinian territories is not recognised by the international community as it is illegal based on the international law.

However, since it started in 1967, no measures have been taken to curb it by any of the international organisations.
