DaysofPal – The Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement, Hamas, has welcomed the Belgian government’s decision to ban imports of products originating from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories, describing the move as a significant step toward upholding international law and challenging Israel’s settlement policies.
In a statement issued on Saturday, the Palestinian movement called the decision a “historic” measure that aligns with humanitarian values and international law, which considers Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories to be illegal.
Hamas said the ban represents an important step toward countering the Israeli government’s efforts to legitimize its settlement expansion and Judaization policies in the occupied Palestinian territories.
The movement urged governments around the world to adopt similar measures by boycotting Israel and its settlements, taking practical steps to increase Israel’s international isolation, and holding it accountable for unprecedented crimes against the Palestinian people.
It also called on the international community to support the Palestinian people’s right to end the occupation and exercise their rights to freedom and self-determination.
The statement followed the Belgian federal government’s announcement that it would prohibit the import of products from Israeli settlements in the occupied Palestinian territories.
Following talks on imports from the occupied Palestinian territories, the federal cabinet approved the decision at its last meeting before the summer break, according to the Belgian news agency Belga. The Belgian government has not yet announced how the ban will be implemented or when it will take effect.
