Days of Palestine, West bank –Hamas called on Saturday for probing Palestinian Authority (PA) attack on anti-Israeli rallies in occupied West bank.
The Palestinian Islamic Movement Hamas also denounced the PA violent dispersal of the demonstrations, when demonstrators took to the streets in the West Bank cities of Nablus and Ramallah on Friday protesting against Israeli aggression on Al-Aqsa Mosque.
Hamas leader and Spokesman Sa’ed abu-Bahaa, who was kidnapped while heading to the Mosque in Al-Beerah city, near Ramallah, urged officials in the Palestinian government of national unity to investigate the “attacks.”
“We consider oppressing rallies in support for Al-Aqsa, despite the fact that they had obtained the needed licenses, as a major and serious breach of freedoms,” he said in a statement.
“Hamas views the practices of PA security services against supporters of Al-Aqsa and Jerusalem as attempts to silence any voice opposing the judaisation of Al-Aqsa Mosque,” he said.
Abu-Bahaa warned that the attacks on the rallies were indicative of a wider crackdown against the movement, suggesting that leaders in the security forces of the Fatah-dominated West Bank were targeting Hamas.
Hamas “is feeling the smell of PA-led policies which seek to keep Hamas out of the political scene and treat Hamas as a prohibited movement in the West Bank,” he said in the statement.
