The number of journalists killed in the Gaza Strip since the start of Israel’s military campaign has risen to 261 following the killing of Palestinian journalist Amal Mohammed Al‑Shamali, according to officials.
Al-Shamali worked as a correspondent for Qatar Radio and was among several civilians reportedly killed in recent Israeli strikes in central Gaza.
In a statement, the Gaza Government Media Office condemned what it described as the systematic targeting and killing of Palestinian journalists by Israeli forces during the ongoing war.
The office said the rising toll among media workers reflects a pattern of attacks on journalists operating in the enclave while documenting the conflict.
It called on international media bodies, including the International Federation of Journalists and the Arab Journalists Union, as well as news organizations worldwide, to denounce what it described as systematic crimes against Palestinian journalists and media workers in Gaza.
The media office also held Israel and its allies responsible for the killings, accusing several governments, including the United States, United Kingdom, Germany and France, of supporting policies that it said enabled the violence.
It urged the international community and legal institutions to take urgent action to condemn the attacks, deter further violations and pursue legal accountability through international courts for what it described as ongoing crimes against journalists in Gaza.
