Amnesty International has warned that Palestinian women and girls in the Gaza Strip are facing some of the most severe forms of discrimination and violence as the ongoing war continues and healthcare services collapse.
In a statement, the rights group said Israeli attacks and the widespread destruction of civilian infrastructure have severely damaged essential healthcare systems, particularly services related to reproductive health.
Amnesty cited findings from a United Nations Commission of Inquiry on the Occupied Palestinian Territory, which concluded in March 2025 that Israel had systematically used sexual, reproductive and other forms of gender-based violence against Palestinians.
According to the organization, the destruction of reproductive healthcare facilities and restrictions on access to basic medical services may constitute acts of genocide under international law, based on the commission’s findings.
The group also referenced a September 2025 assessment by the same UN body, which stated that Israel may have committed genocidal acts in Gaza, including measures that could prevent births among the Palestinian population.
Amnesty linked these conclusions to its own December 2024 report documenting widespread killings, severe physical and psychological harm, and living conditions imposed on Palestinians that the organization said were intended to destroy the population in Gaza, either wholly or partially, including through gender-based harm.
The organization said it continues to document violations alongside women human rights defenders and feminist groups while calling for accountability and stronger international support for Palestinian women and girls.
Amnesty further warned that the situation in Gaza reflects a broader global trend of setbacks in gender equality, including growing attacks on reproductive rights, restrictions on feminist activism and declining funding for women’s rights organizations worldwide.
