Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) reported that the ongoing war in Gaza has led to the displacement of over 1.9 million Palestinians, with conditions deteriorating due to overcrowding and the spread of skin diseases among children.
MSF explained that the displacement often occurs within minutes of Israeli forces issuing evacuation orders, forcing many to flee multiple times.
“As Israeli evacuation orders continue to push people into shrinking spaces along the densely populated coastal areas of Deir al-Balah and Khan Younis, living conditions in Mawasi are worsening,” MSF stated.
According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), more than 190,000 Palestinians were displaced in Khan Younis and Deir al-Balah between July 22 and July 26 alone.
Displaced Palestinians in Mawasi Khan Younis in southern Gaza are living in dusty, overcrowded tents with large family groups, lacking access to basic necessities such as food, water, sanitation, and healthcare, according to MSF’s report. People must queue for hours to fill water containers and use toilets, and regular bathing is impossible.
Dr. Yousef Al-Farra, a pediatrician with the Palestinian Agricultural Relief Committees, told MSF, “Living conditions are extremely difficult. We see between 300 to 400 patients daily at the medical clinic, 200 of which are related to skin diseases. Children are the most affected by these highly contagious skin conditions.”
Between July 1 and August 21, Israeli forces issued at least 16 evacuation orders in Gaza. Nearly 213,000 Palestinians have been affected since the beginning of August alone, with 86% of Gaza under evacuation orders since the start of the conflict, according to OCHA.
