British journalist and human rights activist Sarah Wilkinson was detained August 29, 2024 by the UK authorities reportedly due to her online postings about Palestine.
At 7:30 am, a contingent of twelve officers from counter-terrorism unit conducted a raid into Sarah’s residence, confiscating her electronic devices, According to her brother, Jack Wilkinson.
The officers arrested her over false accusations of terrorism and clear support of the Palestinain resistance.
Wilkinson is a staunch critic of Israeli atrocities in Gaza and an active participant in the “Freedom Flotilla Coalition,” which sought to deliver humanitarian aid to the besieged Gaza earlier this year.
She has been a vocal advocate for Palestinian solidarity and one of outspoken people calling for permanent ceasefire in Gaza.
She worked as an international journalist to MENA Uncensored reporting on international conflicts.
“The pro-genocide UK regime has arrested Mena’s roving reporter and Human Rights Activist Sarah Wilkinson for supporting the Palestinian resistance and relaying what is really happening in Gaza and the West Bank to the world. The pro-rape British government @GOVUK falsely alleges that Mrs. Wilkinson supports terrorism,” MENA Uncensored published on X.
Wilkinson’s arrest sheds light on UK hostile environment for Palestinain activism. Her arrest follows the recent detention of Syrian-British journalist Richard Medhurst, who was interrogated by UK police under the Terrorism Act.
This incident reflects a troubling trend of increased scrutiny and harassment of journalists critical of international conflicts.
Additionally, the arrest of Pavel Durov, founder of Telegram, in Paris, facing multiple charges, further underscores the escalating tensions surrounding the dissemination of information related to the Gaza war in the UK.
“We hold the anti-media British government full responsibility of this stupid act of intimidating and oppressing journalists as well as human rights activist in favor of the israeli occupation entity, and we demand that this zionist-run puppet British government releases our reporter Sarah Wilkinson immediately,” MENA Uncensored added in the statement.
