DaysofPal – The regional government of Emilia-Romagna in northern Italy announced Sunday that it is severing all official ties with the Israeli government, in protest of what it described as the “genocidal war” being waged in the Gaza Strip.
In an official statement, regional authorities said the move was made in response to the “horrific crimes and blatant human rights violations” committed against the Palestinian people — particularly in Gaza — where continued bombardment, starvation, and forced displacement constitute a grave breach of international law.
The statement stressed that the region “cannot remain silent in the face of massacres targeting civilians,” adding that the humanitarian and democratic values on which Emilia-Romagna is founded “do not allow for any form of partnership or cooperation with a government implicated in documented war crimes.”
This marks the first such step by a regional authority in Italy, as public pressure continues to grow across Europe to end Western complicity in Israel’s military campaign and hold perpetrators of atrocities in Gaza accountable.
