Days of Palestine – Ramallah
The Israeli occupation forces (IOF) obstructed Wednesday morning Palestinians’ free movement close to the Uyoun al-Haramiya checkpoint, north of Ramallah, local sources reported.
They said that IOF stopped Palestinian commuters passing through the area on their way between the West Bank cities of Ramallah and Nablus, inspecting their vehicles and checking their identity cards.
The soldiers were part of a sizable military force deployed in the area to ensure the protection of hundreds of settlers who gathered in the area, located on the Ramallah-Nablus Road.
Meanwhile, the heavily-armed soldiers sealed the entrances of the al-Fawwar refugee camp and Dura town, southwest of the southern West Bank city of Hebron, closing the metal gates and preventing passage in both directions.
Israeli severely restricts Palestinians’ freedom of movement through a complex combination of approximately 100 fixed checkpoints, flying checkpoints, settler-only roads, and various other physical obstructions.
Closures besides other measures, taken under the guise of security, are intended to entrench Israel’s 55-year-old military occupation of the West Bank and its settler-colonial project which it enforces with routine and frequently deadly violence against Palestinians.
