Israeli Megiddo Prison Inflicts Pain on Palestinian Minor Prisoner During Illegal Interrogation

S.K | DOP -

The Commission for Detainees and Ex-Detainees Affairs published Tuesday, February 28, 2023 details of the harsh interrogation to which the minor Palestinian prisoner, Yazan Hamza Afana, (16 years old), was subjected following the commission’s lawyer, Ahmed Siam, visit to Megiddo prison.

The report indicated that the Israeli occupation forces stormed his house located in Sur Baher as Israeli soldiers began to search the house and tampered with its contents, then kidnapped Yazan and dragged him to interrogate him for 18 days.

During which, Yazan was subjected to deliberate torture as the Israeli interrogators hit his head against the wall, which led to critical injuries on his forehead, they deliberately stomped on his handcuffed hands, and put out cigarettes in his face.

In the absence of strong pressure to stop the systemic inhumane abuses, the racist and fascist policies of the Prison Service Administration have a negative impact on Palestinian detainees.

It is noteworthy that there are 160 children languishing inside the Israeli occupation prisons, distributed among 3 Israeli detention centres (Ofer, Megiddo, and Damon), where they are subjected to torture, unfair trials, and inhumane treatment, which violates their basic rights, and threatens their future with loss, in violation of the rules of international law and the Convention on the Child.
