An Israeli delegation was expelled from the African Union conference hall in Addis Ababa on Saturday morning, February 18, 2023.

According to Israeli media sources, the delegation included Sharon Barley, the Deputy Director for Africa at the Foreign Ministry, in addition to other participants.

Members of the security personnel asked them to leave the hall during the opening ceremony of the event, Israeli media sources alleged.

This came days after media sources reported that South Africa and Algeria canceled an invitation sent by the AU Commission to Israel to attend the opening of the summit.

The sources pointed out that pressure was exerted by Algeria and Johannesburg and their allies on the continent, to prevent the Israeli from attending any activity at the summit.
