DayofPal-Israel’s security cabinet greenlighted Thursday a plan introduced by war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu for the military occupation of Gaza City.
The Israeli military operation reportedly involves the displacement of “all Palestinian civilians” from the Gaza’s northern city to camps in central Gaza and other areas by October 7.
The highly controversial plan to expand the war comes as massive international pressure is mounting to stop the war and prioritize the humanitarian crisis in the enclave.
The new operation intende to occupy additional areas of central Gaza, including Gaza City. It is expected to take at least several months and involve displacing around 1 million Palestinian civilians.
The Israeli army would also be moving into areas where Israel believes captives are being held, possibly risking their lives.
U.S. and Israeli officials say that President Trump does not oppose Israeli war criminal Benjamin Netanyahu’s plan to launch a new military operation to occupy the entire Gaza Strip.
Trump decided not to intervene and to let the Israeli government make its own decisions.
When asked about a possible Israeli full occupation of Gaza, Trump said: “I really can’t say. It is going to be pretty much up to Israel.”
Israeli opposition leader Yair Lapid has labelled a decision by Israel’s security cabinet as a “disaster that will lead to many more disasters”.
Lapid added that far-right National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich had “dragged Netanyahu into a move that will take many months, lead to the deaths of hostages and soldiers, cost tens of billions for the Israeli taxpayer, and result in a diplomatic collapse”.
Israel’s military chief warned against a full takeover and presented a more limited plan that was rejected by the security cabinet, according to sources.
Protests also erupted in multiple Israeli cities ahead of the cabinet vote, and families of the captives in Gaza blasted the proposed expansion as a “death sentence.”
Political analyst Marwan Bishara says Netanyahu is facing an unprecedented struggle in Gaza. Despite massive destruction and displacement, he has failed to declare victory, enforce a ceasefire, or offer an exit plan. Bishara suggests that Netanyahu is cornered.
Netanyahu and his aides claim Hamas isn’t interested in signing a comprehensive ceasefire and captive deal on terms Israel can accept, and that only military pressure can change that.
“We are not willing to remain in the current limbo and we are not willing to surrender to Hamas’ demands, so essentially only one option is left, to take a drastic step. This is the last card we have left,” a Netanyahu aide told Axios.
