DaysofPal— Hamas spokesperson Hazem Qassem stated that the Israeli occupation is deliberately escalating violence in the Gaza Strip ahead of an upcoming international meeting referred to as the Peace Board.
Hazem Qassem said Israeli forces carried out a large-scale massacre overnight and into Sunday morning, alleging that civilians were targeted in their homes and displacement tents under unfounded pretexts.
In a press statement on Sunday evening, Qassem said the Israeli occupation continues to intensify the violations against Palestinians, noting that Israeli forces are breaching a ceasefire agreement and disregarding mediation efforts aimed at preventing further escalation.
He claimed the timing of the attacks was intended to impose new realities on the ground before the international gathering, sending a message that “talk of peace has no value” while violence continues.
Qassem called on mediators and guarantor states that attended previous negotiations, including meetings in Sharm el-Sheikh, to demonstrate seriousness about achieving peace by exerting practical pressure on the Israeli occupation to halt the ongoing Israeli violations and to honor its commitments.
He further alleged that more than 600 Palestinians have been killed since the ceasefire took effect, urging mediators to take concrete action rather than issuing statements condemning the escalation.
Earlier this week, Reuters reported that U.S. President Donald Trump is expected to unveil a multibillion-dollar reconstruction plan for Gaza during the first session of the Peace Council, scheduled for Feb. 19 in Washington, D.C.. The report said the proposal may also include details of a United Nations–mandated stabilization force.
