DaysofPal- A human rights organization has formally called on the United States to open a criminal investigation into Israeli National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir and to arrest him upon his expected arrival in New York next month.
The request was submitted by the Hind Rajab Foundation (HRF), which said it had filed a legal complaint with the U.S. Department of Justice outlining crimes against Ben-Gvir, including incitement to genocide, torture, and mistreatment of detainees since he assumed office in 2022.
The case represents a test of the United States’ commitment to upholding international law and the rule of law without political exceptions.
In a statement cited in reports published Sunday, the foundation said that policies associated with Ben-Gvir have directly caused the deaths of dozens of Palestinian detainees in Israeli prisons.
It also stated that some of the violations resulted in harm to civilians holding U.S. citizenship.
Jake Rom, the foundation’s representative in the United States, said Ben-Gvir’s visit presents an opportunity for accountability.
“His arrival on U.S. soil raises a critical question: will the authorities enforce the law, or grant immunity to foreign officials?” Rom said, urging federal authorities to act without political considerations.
The Hind Rajab Foundation is an independent Brussels-based human rights organization established in September 2024 during the Gaza war.
It is named after Hind Rajab, a Palestinian child who was killed along with members of her family and paramedics in Gaza City.
The organization focuses on pursuing legal action against Israeli soldiers and officials by documenting digital evidence, collecting testimonies, and identifying suspects, particularly those with dual nationality.
It aims to file criminal cases in national courts under the principle of universal jurisdiction, in addition to submitting documented complaints to the International Criminal Court.
