DayofPal- Gaza Strip is at imminent risk of famine, UN Secretary-General Antonio Guterres said on Thursday, amid the ongoing Israeli massive strikes across the area.
“Deeply concerned by the findings in today’s IPC (Integrated Food Security Phase Classification) report, which indicate that widespread displacement and restrictions on humanitarian aid are pushing Gaza’s population towards catastrophic hunger levels,” Guterres shared on X.
Responding to the recent findings of the UN’s IPC report, Guterres emphasized the seriousness of the situation, stating, “Famine is imminent. This is unacceptable.”
He also called for urgent action, urging that “crossing points must be opened immediately, bureaucratic obstacles cleared, and law and order reinstated so UN agencies can provide critical humanitarian aid.”
Israel’s blockade of humanitarian aid and its repeated assaults on relief convoys have triggered a disaster in the Palestinian enclave.
According to an updated analysis published Thursday by the Integrated Food Security Phase Classification (IPC), “the whole territory is classified in IPC Phase 4 (Emergency)” and “given the recent surge in hostilities, there are growing concerns that this worst-case scenario may materialize.”
