DaysofPal-Amid the ongoing humanitarian deterioration in the Gaza Strip, accusations are mounting against the European Union for its complicity in exacerbating the severe starvation crisis devastating the population. This follows the EU’s announcement of an “agreement” with the Israeli occupation to allow humanitarian aid into Gaza—a promise that has yet to materialize.
Despite the EU’s public statements, which sparked false hope among residents awaiting an imminent relief, no actual humanitarian aid has entered Gaza. Instead, market traders and Israeli-backed gangs exploited the crisis by purchasing available food supplies at low prices, hoarding them, and releasing limited quantities at exorbitant prices, deepening the suffering under the blockade.
This European complicity with the Israeli occupation has proceeded without any response from Palestinian or Arab civil society organizations. Moreover, Arab and Palestinian communities in Europe have failed to exert meaningful pressure to expose this collusion, and media coverage revealing the truth remains scarce.
Last Sunday, the EU emphasized having reached an “agreement” to bring aid into Gaza, but the reality has exposed the announcement as false and misleading.
In doing so, the European Union has eased international pressure on the occupation and obscured the ongoing deliberate starvation policy imposed on Gaza’s residents.
Observers stress that this is not mere miscoordination but deliberate deception and official complicity in the starvation and suffocating siege Israeli occupation enforces on the starving civilians in Gaza.
The promises of the Israeli occupation and the European Union have only intensified the famine in Gaza, turning it into a political decision backed by international cover.
The European Union has thus become an official participant in the crime of starvation in Gaza, retreating from imposing sanctions on Israel in exchange for illusory promises of humanitarian aid that Israel has neither fulfilled nor intends to fulfill.
