A Palestine Marathon was held in Bethlehem on Monday with participation of more than 500 Palestinian and European people.
The marathon Sought to show support for Palestinians’ rights, mainly the right to free movement within their homeland, the marathon’s team included a variety of EU and Palestinian activists
The marathon aimed to protect and promote universal human rights, which are especially important in the current political atmosphere where numerous arrests, attacks, and break-ins color the Palestinian landscape.
The existence of extensive checkpoints, paired with the apartheid wall, makes the movement within the country difficult as well as dangerous.
The marathon comes as a nice gesture, especially after the Ukrainian issue made and the agonizing double-standard impossible for the Palestinians to mess.
“… Marathons send a strong message of being part of a community cherishing effort, commitment, and solidarity with others. What is more, today thousands of Palestinian and international runners have come to Bethlehem to bring attention to one of the basic human rights for all Palestinians – a right that faces numerous restrictions and is under constant threat in the occupied Palestinian territory: the freedom of movement,” said the European Union Representative, Sven Kühn von Burgsdorff.
He also added, “Team Europe is proud of running for Palestine and in support of the respect of the inalienable human rights of the Palestinian people.”
