The European Union reiterated its strong opposition to the Israeli settlement policy and the illegal measures against Palestinians in this context.
In its statement on Wednesday, the European Union stated that it repeatedly reminded the occupation government of the need to fulfill its obligations under international law, especially international humanitarian law, towards the Palestinian people in the occupied West Bank, which includes Area C and East Jerusalem, and to stop Israeli settlement policy.
It’s noteworthy that these statements came to the European Commissioner for Crisis Management, Janez Lenarcic, stated this weekend that the Israeli occupation should reimburse the European Union for the structures they are demolishing in the West Bank that were constructed with EU finances.
This statement came in response to 24 European Parliament members who contacted the commission with regard to Israel‘s plan to demolish numerous homes in Masafer Yatta funded by the European Union and its member countries.
About 1000 Palestinians living in Masafer Yatta are inhabitants of eight villages. The Israeli occupation proclaimed the area a military firing zone over two decades ago in response to local residents’ petition to the High Court of Justice. As well, The petition says these people occupied the area before announcing it a firing zone, making their displacement unlawful.
