DaysofPal- British journalist Douglas Murray has ignited controversy online after he posted a photograph of himself seated in the chair once used by the late Hamas leader Yahya Sinwar in Rafah, located in the southern Gaza Strip.
On Friday, Hamas confirmed the death of Sinwar, who was reportedly killed during combat in Tal As-Sultan, Rafah, earlier that week.
Defiant to the end, Sinwar, who was bleeding while resting in a damaged armchair, threw a stick at the Israeli drone that was searching the building to find a masked fighter, who came to be Sinwar. The building was then shelled by tanks and missiles, killing Sinwar.
The manner of Sinwar’s death—engaged in combat—concludes his narrative as a fighter and leader, a role he has embodied since the inception of Hamas.
On Sunday, the Israeli army gave the New York Post an “exclusive foreign media access” with Israeli forces to the site where Sinwar was killed.
Journalist Douglas Murray, a columnist at The Post, wrote on X, “Tel Sultan, Rafah – today. Where the terrorist Sinwar met his end” while attaching a photo of himself sitting on Sinwar’s chair, prompting anger among social media users and activists.
Malcolm wrote: “Forget about being 0.01% of him, fear in your eyes is evident despite being guarded by diaper forces on the new sofa delivered by the US.”
“Just sitting in his place won’t make you a leader or a symbol. You can only wish,” Leana said.
Replying to Douglas, Patrickocer commented, “The sign on your jacket should say “Propaganda”. You disappoint me so much, from noble origins, to apologize for genocide.”
Humanity United added: “Bitch, please. You are not 1% of the man he was.”
FaceTheTruth wrote: “Thank you for reminding us how Sinwar became an even bigger legend for the resistance.”
Jake Shields said: “He’s more of a man than you will ever be.”
