DayofPal- As Israeli atrocities in Gaza reach the 381-day mark, humanitarian organizations are raising the alarm about the catastrophic situation in Northern Gaza.
They have warned that “northern Gaza is being wiped off the map” by Israeli forces as part of a continuing effort to ethnically cleanse the region of its Palestinian inhabitants.
A statement endorsed by 38 aid organizations accuses the Israeli military of conducting forced displacement under the pretense of issuing “evacuation” orders.
Israeli forces have ordered the forced displacement of approximately 400,000 Palestinians stranded in northern Gaza, including Gaza City. This is not an evacuation but a forced removal under threat of gunfire. Since October 1, no food has been permitted into the region, leaving civilians to face starvation and bombings in both their homes and tents.
The statement stated that Israel has mostly disregarded multiple legally binding directives from the International Court of Justice (ICJ) to stop or prevent actions against Palestinians that could be considered genocidal.
These actions include ” “killing members of the group, causing serious bodily or mental harm to members of the group, deliberately inflicting on the group conditions of life calculated to bring about its physical destruction in whole or in part and imposing measures intended to prevent births within the group.”
There are fears that Israel is implementing the so-called “Generals’ Plan to seal off humanitarian aid to northern Gaza, a plan that, if implemented, could trap, without food or water, hundreds of thousands of Palestinians unwilling or unable to leave their homes.
In July, the International Court of Justice reaffirmed the illegality of Israel’s occupation and annexation of Palestinian territories after the 1967 conflict. They further stated any attempt to alter the territorial integrity of Gaza constitutes a blatant violation of international law.”
Today, thousands of residents stranded in Jabalia, Beit Lahia, and Beit Hanoun in northern Gaza have exhausted their food supplies, particularly since Israel started blocking the entry of goods and aid about three weeks before its latest military operation. Many of these residents have already been forced to flee their homes and shelters multiple times, abandoning personal belongings and food supplies with each escape.
Rights groups said that Israel’s operation in northern Gaza may amount to the war crime of using starvation as a weapon of war.
Meanwhile, the toll of the war is still increasing. More than 42,603 people in Gaza have been killed 99,795 injured, 90 percent of the population—1.9 million people—is displaced, and 60 percent of residential buildings have been destroyed, with an estimated 42 million tonnes of debris generated.
