Israeli settlers today stormed the archeological site of Sebastia, north of the West Bank city of Nablus, according to local sources.
Sebastia Mayor, Muhammad Azim said that settlers stormed the archaeological site, under the protection of the Israeli military, and the site and roads leading to it were closed to citizens.
Azim indicated that the occupation forces had deployed since the morning hours on the roads and rooftops, explaining that the incursion came according to a fixed program announced by settlers earlier to storm the site.

The archaeological sites in the West Bank have been exposed since the end of the eighties to the occupation’s attempts to place them under its administration, and Sebastia has actually been transformed into the so-called Israeli public gardens.
Later, the occupation claimed that Sebastia was part of the nearby Shafi Shimron settlement until the settlers carried signs, “Sebastia Public Garden.”
Palestinians in Sebastia in the northern West Bank seek to place it on the world tourism map, as one of the important archaeological sites, and to protect it from Israeli attempts to control.
