DaysofPal – A Hamas delegation headed by Zaher Jabarin, the movement’s leader in the occupied West Bank, arrived in the Egyptian capital, Cairo, on Tuesday morning for meetings with Egyptian officials and international mediators aimed at advancing the implementation of the ceasefire agreement.
Taher al-Nono, political adviser to the head of Hamas’s Political Bureau, said the delegation’s top priority is addressing escalating Israeli violations in the Gaza Strip, including daily killings and targeted assassinations.
He stressed the need to ensure Israel’s compliance with its obligations to allow the full entry of humanitarian and reconstruction supplies into Gaza, including materials needed to repair hospitals, bakeries, and critical infrastructure, as well as to implement the remaining provisions of the Sharm el-Sheikh agreement.
In a press statement, al-Nono said the talks will also continue discussions on the roadmap prepared by former UN envoy Nickolay Mladenov in coordination with the mediators for the second phase of the agreement.
Al-Nono noted that the plan included the dispatch of an administrative committee and international protection forces and eventually a complete Israeli withdrawal from all areas of the Gaza Strip.
“We are serious about reaching an agreement that ends the suffering of our people, stops the occupation’s crimes, and advances the restoration of our people’s political rights, foremost among them freedom and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state,” al-Nono said.
