UN Denies Israel’s Claims of Hamas Involvement at School Attacked in Gaza

Palestinians cross a road flooded by water after it was damaged by nearby airstrike carried out by Israeli colonial forces in Beit Lahiya, north Gaza, October 9, 2023. Israeli colonial forces declared a "complete siege” on Gaza and launched hundreds of airstrikes, killing more than 500 Palestinians in an area home to 2.3 million people, most of whom are refugees with nowhere to flee. On October 7, the Palestinian resistance launched a massive operation called Al-Aqsa Flood on Israeli settlements inside '48. Dozens of resistance fighters raided Israeli settlements and thousands of rockets were launched from the Gaza Strip. Hundreds of Israelis were killed and injured. Multiple Israeli hostages are now reportedly being held by Hamas in Gaza.

DaysofPal – The municipality of Jabalia al-Nazla in northern Gaza has issued an urgent appeal to international organizations, humanitarian agencies, and local and international partners, calling for immediate intervention to prevent the collapse of its water supply system amid a worsening operational crisis that threatens to leave thousands of residents without access to water.

In a statement released on Tuesday, the municipality warned that the continued power outage and the depletion of operational energy sources are pushing the area toward an imminent health and environmental disaster. It said the shutdown of both primary and secondary water wells has placed the entire municipality at risk of losing its water supply.

The municipality stressed that maintaining water distribution and other essential services requires the immediate provision of mobile electricity generators. It said it urgently needs to rent two 7 KVA generators, three 15 KVA generators, one 50 KVA generator, and one 110 KVA generator.

The statement says the only solution available to restart the wells is to rent the generators and to ensure that water reaches residents under the current circumstances.

The municipality called on all relevant organizations and humanitarian actors to respond without delay by financing or securing the rental of the required generators in order to prevent the humanitarian crisis from worsening.

Meanwhile, the international humanitarian organization Mercy Corps warned that Gaza’s water crisis has become an urgent and life-threatening emergency, exacerbated by soaring summer temperatures and Israel’s military campaign in the territory, which has continued for more than two and a half years.

The organization said that more than 75 percent of Gaza’s population is experiencing severe water insecurity, while most households survive on less than six liters of water per person per day. That amount is less than half the 15 liters per day considered the minimum required for survival in emergency situations and only a fraction of the approximately 85 liters per person consumed daily before the war.

The humanitarian situation in Gaza continues to deteriorate due to ongoing Israeli restrictions on the entry of fuel, spare parts, and vehicle lubricants. Such restrictions have had a direct impact on the functioning of water facilities and other basic services, exacerbating the crisis faced by the population day after day, the report said.
