DaysofPal – At least seven Palestinians were killed and around 50 others injured on Friday evening following two Israeli airstrikes on Gaza City, amid Israeli claims that one of the attacks targeted a resistance commander.
Local sources said Israeli warplanes fired at least two missiles at a residential apartment inside the Al-Mu’taz building in Gaza City, killing four people, including a woman, and injuring nearly 50 others in an initial toll. The strike destroyed an entire floor of the building and triggered a large fire.
Several floors of the residential tower suffered significant internal damage as a result of the bombardment, according to local reports, while rescue and medical personnel worked to recover and remove victims from the area.
Minutes after the first strike, Israeli aircraft targeted a vehicle elsewhere in Gaza City, killing at least three more Palestinians.
Medical sources reported that 13 injured people were transferred to the field hospital operated by the Palestine Red Crescent Society following the strike on the apartment building.
Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and Israeli Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Israel had carried out an assassination operation against a resistance leader in Gaza. No Palestinian confirmation regarding the identities of those killed had been issued at the time of reporting.
Hebrew-language media outlets reported that the strikes on the apartment and the vehicle were connected.
Israeli forces continue to violate the ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip through ongoing airstrikes and artillery shelling targeting areas sheltering displaced civilians, in addition to carrying out assassinations and demolition operations inside what Israel refers to as the “yellow line.” Restrictions on the movement of goods, humanitarian aid, and travel also remain in place.
According to figures released by the Palestinian Ministry of Health, the death toll since the ceasefire began on 10 October last year has risen to 859 Palestinians killed, alongside 2,486 injuries and 771 bodies recovered from under the rubble.
The overall toll of Israel’s genocidal campaign on Gaza since 7 October 2023 has reached approximately 72,746 killed and 172,588 injured, underscoring the heavy human cost of the ongoing war on the territory.
