DaysofPal- Israeli occupation forces imposed strict measures on Friday in the surroundings of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, coinciding with the entry of dozens of settlers into the Lions’ Gate area in occupied Jerusalem.
Local sources reported that dozens of settlers stormed the area near Lions’ Gate, while Israeli occupation forces closed the gate in the face of worshippers arriving to perform Friday prayers.
They also closed King Faisal Gate, one of the gates of the Al-Aqsa Mosque compound, preventing entry through it.
These measures come as part of ongoing restrictions aimed at limiting worshippers’ access to the Al-Aqsa Mosque, amid repeated settlers’ incursions into the areas surrounding it.
The Jerusalem Governorate warned of the danger of the organized Israeli campaign led by so-called “Temple organizations,” backed by political figures in the occupation government, coinciding with what is called as “Jerusalem Day.”
It stated that these incursions aim to impose a new historical and legal reality by force, and to undermine the religious sanctity and status of the site.
The governorate stressed that choosing Friday specifically for the incursion reflects clear intentions to challenge the existing status quo and establish dangerous precedents not witnessed since the occupation of the city.
It warned that such escalation could have serious consequences and may inflame sentiments among Muslims worldwide.
