DaysofPal- The Palestinian Prisoners’ Information Office said Wednesday that the number of Palestinian women held in Israeli prisons has risen to 59, following more than 680 reported arrests of women since October 7, 2023.
In a statement, the office said the figure includes minors and does not account for women from Gaza who were detained and whose whereabouts remain unknown in Israeli military camps.
According to the statement, the current group of detainees includes two women diagnosed with cancer, two minors, and one woman who gave birth while in prison.
The majority of the women face charges of “incitement,” while roughly one-third are being held under administrative detention without formal charges.
The office also said female detainees are being held under harsh conditions, citing poor nutrition, medical neglect, raids on prison cells, solitary confinement, and violations of privacy.
It added that formerly released prisoners and journalists are among those detained, and that women are being used as leverage against their families.
Official Palestinian data indicates that as of early January, approximately 9,350 Palestinians are being held in Israeli prisons.
